Science Minister Kirsty Duncan and London North Centre MP Peter Fragiskatos visit the CFMM

Canada’s Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan visited Western University earlier this month, meeting with scientists and trainees at Robarts. She toured the Translational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab and the Centre for Functional and Metabolic Mapping, and also met with the co-chairs of the Inspiring Young Women in STEM Conference.
“The Science Minister was hugely enthusiastic about the work that is being done at Western,” said Robarts scientist Lisa Saksida, PhD, Tier 1 CRC and Co-Scientific Director of BrainsCAN. “We are fortunate to have such an engaged advocate, and her visit was a tremendous opportunity for our researchers to give her some excellent examples of why it is so important to fund science in Canada.”
“Minister Duncan seems committed to improving science funding in Canada, and to improving the participation of women in science,” added Robarts scientist Ravi Menon, PhD, Tier 1 CRC and Co-Scientific Director of BrainsCAN. “She was really impressed by the efforts BrainsCAN is making to integrate research on campus all the way from cellular and molecular aspects of rodent cognition to ultra-high field MRI studies of human cognition. And meeting our trainees showed her that the future for scientific innovation is in good hands.”
