Robarts takes centre stage at See the Line

Robarts’ research strengths and world-class facilities took centre stage at this year’s See the Line event on August 16.
As part of the day’s events, Canadian Olympian and hockey all-star Hayley Wickenheiser toured the research facilities at Robarts. She was joined by Kalley Armstrong, assistant coach for the Western Mustangs Women’s Hockey Team and former varsity athlete for Harvard University.
Scientists Rob Bartha, PhD, Arthur Brown, PhD, and Greg Dekaban, PhD, along with trainees from their labs, presented current concussion research projects to the athletes and media in attendance. The research team discussed the importance of animal research in advancing the field, highlighting their work in reverse translation – using animal models to validate research findings in humans.
In the afternoon, the fifth annual See the Line Community Symposium brought together more than 800 community members, athletes, coaches and research leaders to discuss the latest concussion research, and to build awareness about the serious impact of concussions and brain injury.
Honorary Chair Eric Lindros opened the Symposium, sharing his commitment to building awareness around concussion and changing the culture in sport, and the collaboration needed to address it.
Another special highlight was a spontaneous chant in support of Team Up, Speak Up led by presenter Chris Nowinski, encouraging athletes at all levels to look out for each other during play.
Ron MacLean concluded the event as host for the athlete panel and Q&A discussion, impressing audience members with his knowledge of Canadian sports.
